Four Poster Bed |
The
Low Four Poster was the classical Australian bed. It was designed
and made by the first Australian cabinet-makers for the prestigious
colonial homes of our pioneering families. Treasured originals
can be seen in National Trust Homes.
It was not until the development of mechanised manufacturing
during the 1860's that the mass production of brass and iron
beds began.
The Low Four Poster was also called the French Bed or the
Farm House Bed. |

Craftsman's comments |
This Classic
Australian design features beautiful hand-turned posts and stretchers.
Hand-turned patera decorate the elegantly shaped foot and head
boards.
The base is traditionally sprung with wooden slats, which are
now recognised as being supportive and good for your back. |
